v1.4.3latest releaseSmoother projects, exports and effect editing

Fixes for Threshold rendering, export reveal, recent projects, media workspaces, update styling and help links, with refinements to Slit Scan, Liquid Glass, Broken Glass, Frequency Modulation, Data Mask, Shape Grid and the Energy example.

  • FixedThreshold renders correctly when sliders or animation produce fractional cutoff values. Sharpen's flat-area threshold uses the same correction.
  • FixedReveal file opens the location of completed image and video exports outside the usual folders, including iCloud locations.
  • FixedRemoving an entry from recent projects preserves the list's scroll position.
  • FixedOpening an image or video directly keeps workspace panels, library tools, audio and canvas output available before the first project save.
  • FixedThe update banner's leading stripe uses your selected accent color consistently.
  • FixedIn-app documentation and help links open the current hosted Reference library, with direct links to the relevant topics.
  • ImprovedNotifications use compact panel styling with clearer actions. Self-contained layer folders have distinct open and closed icons.
  • ImprovedNew support requests start as bug reports with logs selected. Attachments are listed as Logs, Project and Project media.
  • ImprovedNew from media is available from the welcome screen and project menus, using the existing unsaved-changes check before opening an image or video.
  • ImprovedNew timelines default to 60 fps across the editor, export controls and connected workflows. Existing projects keep their saved frame rate.
  • ImprovedFrequency Modulation starts with a denser pixel weave and refined controls. Its picker preview matches the current default appearance.
  • ImprovedData Mask starts with finer source-colored blocks on charcoal paper. Shape Grid starts with a denser, flat cross pattern on cool white paper. Existing layers keep their saved settings.
  • ImprovedEnergy — Live has updated refraction, glow, chromatic aberration and screen treatment, with its rotation layer disabled for the intended landscape composition.
  • FixedPhase advances a travelling periodic field through a complete cycle. Animate from 0 to 1 for a seamless loop without reflected motion or crossfaded copies.
  • FixedLiquid Glass starts with a full-canvas radius. At 100%, the lens covers the corners on wide and tall canvases, including when its center is shifted.
  • ImprovedBroken Glass distributes fractures across the full pane, with refined material defaults, thickness falloff and a matching effect-picker preview.
v1.4.2Smoother browsing and editing

A maintenance update with faster library browsing, clearer previews, accurate Live FPS, compact Brush controls, consistent toolbar interactions, expanded connected workflows, and updated AI terms review.

  • FixedThe canvas FPS display reports measured native presentation during Live playback and shows the configured limit separately, so the readout reflects the frames actually presented.
  • FixedImproved first-use color conversion when multiple video readers start together, keeping colors and transparency unchanged.
  • ImprovedBrush quick controls use the shared sliders, numeric fields, unit picker, and mode selectors in a compact popup that fits the viewport. Keyboard shortcuts, color swaps, focus, and undo remain consistent while the popup is open.
  • ImprovedConnected MCP clients can edit compositions, animation and easing, audio and beat controls, MIDI and OSC mappings, live video, canvas output, 3D scenes, and assets through madphase's existing creative workflows.
  • FixedRight-clicking and Control-clicking layers opens the correct context menu while preserving selection and editing gestures. Canvas alignment icons are centered and use consistent toolbar hover styling.
  • ImprovedEffect pickers keep their compact layout and show explanatory preview cards with endpoint-specific examples. Moving between submenus is smoother, and sidebar previews follow the selected effect.
  • FixedScrolling the preset library stays responsive, with previews loaded only when needed.
  • ImprovedReview the updated legal documents and confirm adult eligibility before starting a new AI generation or purchase. Your account keeps the confirmation for the current terms. Existing results and billing management remain available.
  • FixedClick the daily tip title or text, or focus it and press Enter or Space, to open the complete Workflow Tips article. The compact tip popover and its See more action use the same destination.
  • ImprovedOpen the madphase account page directly from Settings → Account to manage your subscriptions, payments, and account details in your browser.
  • ImprovedLinux startup failures retain clearer diagnostic information to help identify problems and share useful details with support.
v1.4.1Native Linux playback and editing reliability

Linux gains native Vulkan presentation, with improvements to audio playback, automatic tempo detection, popup controls, and text rendering. This update also adds the Energy — Live example and fixes editing, project recovery, color preservation, and exports across platforms.

  • ImprovedNative presentation is now enabled by default on macOS, Windows, and Linux. On X11 desktops, Linux uses Vulkan for GPU-resident Live canvas playback and Canvas Output that advance independently of editor redraws. Your saved Canvas framework choice is preserved.
  • FixedThe Linux app displays its icon correctly. SVG text and 3D SVG artwork resolve generic font families through installed system fonts, improving text rendering when artwork uses serif, sans-serif, or other generic families.
  • FixedImproved playback and auditioning of imported audio, including starting after loading, seeking, and switching projects. Edited clips follow their trims, fades, and authored gaps more consistently. Pending seeks no longer repeatedly interrupt playback, and tracks stop cleanly at their end.
  • ImprovedAutomatic live tempo detection checks the consistency of detected beats before changing its tempo lock, reducing spurious jumps while allowing coherent tempo changes.
  • FixedHelp tooltips no longer open over the frame-rate popover or Add input menu while those controls are open, including when you click immediately after hovering. Tooltips return normally after closing the control. Add input also has improved keyboard focus, Tab navigation, and Escape handling.
  • FixedBlank canvases retain their color space when saved and reopened, and still-image and animation-frame exports retain the rendered color space. Exported video audio now covers the full timeline, including trailing silence after a shorter audio track.
  • FixedSwitching projects or examples no longer leaves previous render work interfering with the new composition. Relinking missing media preserves the original trim and timing rather than resetting the authored range.
  • AddedExplore Energy — Live, a chrome 3D SVG composition with live audio motion and an optional MIDI scale mapping. The Audio Reactive Cymatic Sand example now carries its Drive and Node Sharpness animation across the full three-second timeline.
  • FixedThe Image Correction histogram and footer stay fixed while the parameters scroll beneath them. Controls no longer bleed into the histogram padding, including in locked and mixed-selection inspectors, and the histogram surround matches the panel surface.
  • ImprovedMaterial, shape, and environment preset menus scroll vertically, with horizontal cycling available while their trigger is closed. The brand gradient is displayed as madglitch in the palette picker.
  • FixedFixed an editor crash when using Alt+[ or Alt+] to select a 3D scene or portal. Preview-mode labels now show the correct scene or portal name, including custom names.
  • ImprovedConnected MCP clients can inspect the current live-audio input, tempo, confidence, and capture state without starting capture or changing playback.
  • FixedGeneral Documentation and User Guide actions open Overview directly; contextual links keep their specific articles. Update download percentages use stable monospaced figures. Includes account reliability improvements.
v1.4.0Live capture, MIDI and OSC, and creative libraries

Bring cameras, screens, audio inputs, MIDI and OSC controls, and creative libraries into your compositions. Send your canvas to a virtual camera, generate with madphase AI credits, and work with finer numeric and animation controls, faster playback, and improved editing reliability.

  • AddedBring a camera feed, your screen, or an individual window into a composition as a live video layer. Combine captured footage with your effects and other layers.
  • AddedSend your canvas to a virtual camera on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Manage the feed from the Canvas Output inspector to use your composition in other apps.
  • AddedCapture system audio alongside microphones and other inputs for audio-reactive effects and recorded takes. Mix simultaneous sources individually, with steadier beat detection and clearer tempo controls. File inputs have editable waveform clips: move, trim, change their source, and undo edits on the timeline.
  • AddedSearch Pixabay photos and videos and Poly Haven 3D models, filter results, and inspect full-size previews before dropping them into a composition. You can also start a project directly from a stock photo or video.
  • AddedKeep images, SVGs, videos, and 3D models in a searchable personal library. Browse built-in editable shapes and madphase artwork, preview models interactively, and drag assets into your projects.
  • AddedExplore curated editable presets, restored original looks, and a Glitch collection. Photo demos and animated treatments show each look in action; compare the original and result, browse by family, and open demos for your saved presets too.
  • AddedUse account-owned madphase AI credits to generate and edit images. Browse models, review generation options and estimated costs before starting, and manage credits in Account settings.
  • AddedIn Live, map MIDI controllers or local OSC to numeric inputs and toggles, including opacity, color channels, percent/pixel sizes, effect settings and 3D model controls. Learn sources, set ranges, use relative encoders, and drive several parameters with one control. Copy inputs or duplicate layers to keep assignments, and save mappings with projects. Control visibility, playback and frame navigation, with values held through loops and seeks.
  • AddedConnect local AI clients through MCP in Settings → Integrations. Let an assistant edit a composition, inspect previews, animate, save, or export, with controls over what each client can do and the option to disconnect at any time.
  • AddedDrag numeric values directly and choose your precision while scrubbing. Show parameter sliders from Settings, reset values by double-clicking their labels or rows, and choose your preferred layer stack direction.
  • ImprovedMove linked video clips to change their Timeline Offset, or drag either edge to trim. Give looping clips a chosen endpoint and move the loop as a unit. Trim controls, linked regions, and undo/redo stay in sync.
  • AddedChoose where pasted animation starts and fit selected animation to the timeline. Copied timing, units, and animation beyond playback duration are preserved. Fade In and Fade Out presets now expose editable start and end values. Animated controls show their current value and reveal the corresponding track; sparse animation curves display correctly.
  • ImprovedManipulate 3D objects on the canvas with simpler camera controls and shared edits across matching model layers. Pixel Stretch gains separate Start, End, and Side Feather controls; shape borders gain their own feathering control for softer edges. Layer color-channel controls now use the standard keyframeable inputs.
  • ImprovedDrop images and videos into an open project to add layers, or onto the homepage to start a project. Drop .cube LUTs and 3D models to add their layers, or .mphase files to open projects. A clearer drop overlay shows what will happen.
  • ImprovedLive playback is faster for 3D scenes, layered video, temporal effects, and FFT EQ. Use audio-reactive opacity and color channels with live capture. Continuous parameter edits stay responsive, audio-driven previews reflect the current output, and switching preview modes or using Canvas Output keeps playback more dependable.
  • ImprovedShow or hide Effects and Layers together, or toggle the timeline, while retaining your workspace layout. Audio and libraries can share a resizable dock. Find focused guided tours, workflow-filtered examples, daily tips, and a customizable welcome screen, alongside refreshed icons, Rose accent colors, compact canvas controls, and a browser-based User Guide with direct links to the selected effect. Text inputs use consistent monospace typography.
  • AddedStar effects in search, browse Favorites and Recently Used, and add them with the keyboard. Your collections stay available after restarting madphase.
  • AddedAlign supported 2D layers to the canvas or align multiple layers together. Fit selected layers proportionally, alternate width and height fitting, and resize with more accurate snapping. Locked layers stay protected during canvas edits.
  • AddedCreate organic structures with Morphogenesis, and animate pattern generators with a seamless looping Phase control. Fusion gains refined materials and continuous motion; Reaction Diffusion and Frequency Modulation have improved starting looks. Stipple patterns now open with distinct authored defaults.
  • ImprovedRefined glass, damage, glitch, corruption, print, paint, distortion, particle, and sonification effects improve detail, transparency, motion, and responsiveness. Airbrush glow, Gaussian spot lights, Wave and Ripple edges, and FFT EQ preserve cleaner results.
  • FixedStill-image formats preserve SDR color and transparency more consistently. Successful format, quality, and destination choices are remembered, dotted and Unicode source names stay intact, and a failed export preserves an existing destination file. Cancelled attempts and retries keep the editor usable.
  • FixedEmbedded images, video, and file audio travel with saved projects. Missing-media feedback identifies the affected file; use Locate to reconnect it while preserving the composition and audio timing. Refresh checks restored files again, and failed opens or saves leave recovery available.
  • FixedRepaired Puppet Warp pins, meshes, and rendering; improved 3D materials, particle detail, and Cymatic Sand motion. Video decoding, export cancellation and recovery, playhead still exports, and Windows canvas presentation are more reliable. Closing unsaved work offers Save, Discard, or Cancel.
  • FixedTimeline selections highlight their owning layers and folders, and clicking the sole selected keyframe or preset clip again deselects it. Settings respond more smoothly and include optional usage analytics controls. AI service messages and credit checkout recovery are clearer and more reliable. Contact support directly from the app and choose which diagnostic files to include. Includes security fixes and account reliability improvements.
